Clone is a 2D platform game, which was created to test a hypothesis I was investigating for my dissertation. The overall concept of the game was inspired by how humanity is deemed as being superior to other creatures on earth. Therefore, I believed it would be interesting to make a game where humans are portrayed as being 'Cattle' to a race superior to them. As morbid as this concept sounds its actual main purpose was to discover whether a player’s level of immersion is affected by their game characters gender; hence providing the player with the option to player as either male or female. The data I collected from this research showed interesting results in some cases where both male and female players believed to feel more immersed within the game when playing as a character opposite to their own sex.
Update - I decided to re-visit this 2D-Scifi project and eventually turn it into a polished/complete experience. I intend to create multiple levels, which will introduce the player to new mechanics over time. This design process follows the traditional flow of the 2D platforming genre, but the experience I wish to get across to the player is to play on the concept of gender in video games. By allowing the player to swap their character's gender this will allow them to enter certain parts of the world in order to solve and complete various designed obstacles/puzzles.
